Describing security camera events on an 8GB card

A vision model on a modest 3070 turns raw detection events from a home-built surveillance system into plain-language descriptions.

As part of a broader homelab setup, this person built a video surveillance system that uses Qwen3-VL-4B-Instruct on an 8GB RTX 3070 to generate plain-language descriptions of the events it detects, rather than just logging raw triggers. It's one of three local roles in their pipeline, alongside a separate, larger model used as their main coding agent and as an automated peer reviewer paired with Codex.
