Letting a local model program ESP32 boards and read the serial output back

A hobbyist gives a local model a terminal and a serial device so it can build, flash and debug microcontroller sketches, and also runs ticket classification for work.

This person's local usage is geared to hardware hobbies. Rather than struggling with C/C++ syntax for ESP32, STM32, Teensy, Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects, they let a local model write the sketches and then actually program the device: it gets a terminal and a COM device, finds the board, opens SSH, pushes the sketch with ESP-IDF or the board's toolchain, then watches the load and the serial output after boot and reports on events. When the owner describes screen-alignment or colour problems in words, the model corrects them, and the human does the final visual check.

At work, in a tech company, they and a colleague use a local model for the analysis and classification portion of a resource-intensive ticket-analysis engine. The plan still comes from Claude or ChatGPT, but the high-volume API work was becoming infeasible at frontier token prices, so sorting and classifying against a ticket-description database runs locally instead.
