An avatar assistant with persistent memory shared between desktop and Second Life

A retired teacher with no coding background built an animated avatar assistant on a local 9B model, then bridged its persistent memory into a virtual world so it inhabits two bodies.

This retired mathematics and chemistry teacher started experimenting about seven months ago with no coding background. What began as a weekend chatbot became an animated 2D avatar on screen with autonomous body language. The assistant runs on a local Qwen 3.5 9B model, can search the internet, has access to a wikibot and AnythingLLM, writes articles for the owner's blog, and produces prompts for a comic series.

The unusual step is persistence: the owner bridged the assistant's persistent memory into Second Life, so the same model controls a Live2D avatar on the desktop and a hyperrealistic avatar in the virtual world, with continuity maintained across both. The owner frames this as a hobby project rather than a productivity tool, and notes it could be directed at more practical work if desired.
